National standards laboratory
Length
The Finnish Geodetic Institute is a National Standards Laboratory of Length. Activities are maintained and developed to meet the national and international requirements.
Acceleration of free-fall
Finnish Geodetic Institute (FGI) is the National Standards Laboratory for the acceleration of the free fall, and a partner in the Mutual Recognition Arrangement MRA. FGI maintains the national reference standard (the FG5-221 absolute gravimeter), monitors the variation in gravity especially at the national reference station Metsähovi, and upholds the national gravimetric reference networks. FGI also maintains the Masala-Vihti calibration line for relative gravimeters, and measures values of the acceleration of free fall where required for technical and scientific purposes. FGI participates in the work of the Working Group on Gravimetry (CCMWGG) in the Consultative Committee for Mass and Related Quantities (CCM) of the International Committee on Weights and Measures (CIPM).
