Act on the Finnish Geodetic Insitute

In accordance with a decision of Parliament it is enacted:

1 § Administrative position

The Finnish Geodetic Institute is a research institute subordinate to the Ministry of Forestry and Agriculture and forming part of the central state administration.

2 § Tasks

The Finnish Geodetic Institute shall deal with the basic scientific measurements for Finnish mapping and with metrology of geospatial information engage in research work in the fields of geodesy, geoinformatics and remote sensing and related sciences. The task of the institute shall also be to foster the introduction of geodetic, geoinformatics and remote sensing methods and equipment in the acquisition and processing of geospatial information particular.

The Finnish Geodetic Institute shall maintain measurement normals for geodetic and photogrammetric measurements and acts as the national measurement normal laboratory for length and acceleration of free fall.

In addition, the Finnish Geodetic Institute shall perform tasks designated separately by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

3 § Management and settlement of matters

The head of the Finnish Geodetic Institute shall be the Director General, who shall settle matters belonging to the Institute. Transfer of power of decision to other officials of the Finnish Geodetic Institute shall be enacted by a decree of the Council of State and ordered more specifically in the working order of the Finnish Geodetic Institute.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry shall appoint the deputy to the Director General.

4 § Receipt of donations

The Finnish Geodetic Institute is entitled to receive donations for its operation and for research tasks in particular.

5 § More detailed provisions and regulations

More detailed provisions on the enforcement of this act will be given by a Council of State decree and it shall be ordered on the ground thereof by working order.

6 § Entry into force

This act shall enter into force on September 1, 2000.

This act supersedes the Act on the Finnish Geodetic Institute (442/1975) given on 13th June 1975 together with subsequent amendments thereto.
